How much parental involvement is required?Updated a year ago

The game is designed for children to play alone and includes voiceovers with instructions. The parental support required involves creating a user profile and making sure that the sound is on so that your child can hear the instructions and content of the games. Beyond this, you can let your child play alone, staying on hand to help if they get stuck.

While the game is self-explanatory, research tells us that showing interest in your child's learning, encouraging them, and discussing what they've learned with them helps to reinforce new information and develops a positive attitude towards learning. To help you make the learning experience a shared one, we have included questions for discussion in the Progress Report. Also, when it comes to pronouncing individual sounds, parent involvement is especially beneficial because it enables children to imitate. Check the progress report to see which sounds your child has encountered and to get tips on how to help them practice their newly-acquired skills.

Finally, we know that the process and pedagogy behind learning to read involves complex terminology. So, to help you understand more about the curriculum and The Science of Reading, we have written some easy-to-understand guides. Phonics Deep Dive explains the terms and rationale behind Systematic Synthetic Phonics and The Science of Reading explains how the brain learns to read and what kind of instruction is required.
