What is Phonics?Updated a year ago

Phonics is a coding system for the English language that goes beyond the 26 letters of the alphabet. It teaches children 44 phonemes (sounds such as the /f/ in funny) and more than 200 graphemes (letter or letter combinations such as f, ff or ph) corresponding to these sounds in written language. The 44 phonemes (sounds) and 200+ graphemes (letters or groups of letters) make up all the words in the English language.

Systematic phonics instruction is most effective when provided within the context of a comprehensive reading program which also addresses phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. This is why Readiculous consists of multiple mini-games, each of which addresses some of these necessary skills.
