Word Tag: I’m here now, what do I do?

Explore the world with your character, collect spray cans, find walls, and graffiti over them to learn new words! Let’s start by going over the navigation and controls.

Basic navigation

Looking around

Try swiping on the screen to look around! 

Moving the character 

To move your character around, use the joystick to your left. Hold the circle in the middle of the joystick and drag it towards the surrounding arrows. 

Combine that with swiping on the screen, and your character will be running and looking around in no time!

Other controls & useful information on screen

There’s more to running and looking around in Word Tag. Once you nail those, here are some other things you might find useful:



  1. Joystick

Move your character around

  1. Jump    

Tap once to jump, tap twice to jump higher!

  1. Skate/ walk

Switch between running or skating.

Some areas are more easily accessed on foot, while others can only be reached when you are travelling on wheels!

* Skates and vehicles will only be available after you get through the first level. Don’t panic if you don’t see this button yet!

  1. Interact

This button lights up when there is an available interaction. 

This could be used to enter an area, a shop, or to talk to other characters.

  1. Mini map

Shows you locations of walls, items, areas, or shops relative to you

See the little green arrow? That’s you!

  1. Settings

  • Adjust the volume

  • Choose camera controls

  • Manual controls: 

Player gets full camera control by swiping on the screen

  • Auto controls: 

Camera rotates automatically when character turns

  • Semiauto controls: 

Camera rotates automatically when character turns, but to a lesser extent

  • Access the parent area

  1. Home

  • Customise what your character is wearing

  • View your word collection and click on words to see definitions

  • Find other friends playing Word Tag

  1. Word Stars

By learning new words, you gain Word Stars! 

Use these to unlock new areas and buy rare items. 

  1. Coins

You can pick up coins as you traverse through different areas. Use these to buy accessories and booster items.

Painting Walls

Once you get into an area, look for spray cans! Keep an eye on the spray cans you own and the amount required to paint a wall. Once you reach that number, you’re ready to paint!


If there is enough paint for the wall, the interact button becomes available. Click on that to paint the wall!



Complete the activity required:




Nice! You just painted a wall :) Keep going and paint 3 walls in order to complete the mission.

Daily Goal

To get the most out of Word Tag pedagogically, fill up the daily word stars bar by painting walls. 


Once you reach the goal, the Pop Quiz tent will open up for a quick recap activity! Complete the quiz for more rewards, and return to Word Tag the next day to keep learning.
